What extra requirements apply to the income-qualified rebate (up to $8,000)?

How much is the rebate, and can I get more than one?

Your heating system
What does my current furnace need to be?
- An existing gas or piped-propane furnace that is at least 15 years old.
- It must be your home's primary heating system and heat most of the living area.
- Your home must not already have an air source heat pump or dual fuel system as a primary or secondary heating system.
What kind of new system qualifies?
- A new central ducted air source heat pump paired with a new, compatible high-efficiency gas furnace, run by a single set of controls.
- The system must be on FortisBC's Qualified Dual Fuel Systems List, with an AHRI certified reference number covering the heat pump's outdoor and indoor units and the furnace model number.
What is the switchover temperature?
It's the outdoor temperature at which your system switches from the heat pump to the gas furnace. The thermostat, outdoor switchover control or equipment control board must be set no higher than the following for the life of the product:
- Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island: 5°C or lower
- Southern Interior and Northern B.C.: 2°C or lower
Installation
Who is allowed to install it?
A Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor who is a member in good standing of the Home Performance Contractor Network and has completed FortisBC's dual fuel rebate training. All required electrical, gas and mechanical permits must be obtained, and the installation must meet all municipal, provincial and federal codes.
How will my new system be sized?
- It's sized as your home's primary heating system and serves the main living area (for example, the family room, living room or open-concept kitchen-living room).
- The heat pump must be able to meet your home's heat demand down to the switchover temperature for your region.
- Sizing is based on a CAN/CSA F280-12 heat load calculation and your home's ductwork. Rule-of-thumb sizing isn't accepted.
- It's installed following the Heat Pump Best Practices Installation Guide and the High-Efficiency Furnace Installation Guide for existing homes.
What happens on installation day?
Your system is commissioned on site to make sure it's installed and running correctly. We record the commissioning details in FortisBC's DSMAlly mobile app at the time of installation, and you'll receive a copy of the commissioning sheet, which is needed for your rebate application.
